Baidarka, Authentic Aleut Skin
kayak custom built by master woodworker Bruce Lemon. This particular
frame was fashioned from a museum piece collected in 1934 from the Atka
Island in the Aleutian Chain , Alaska. The original covering would
have been seal skin. The frame is made with several different kinds
of wood. The main structure is Sitka Spruce. The ribs are White Oak.
The deck beams and cockpit are a combination of Red And Yellow Cedar and
the stem and stern are Spruce. All materials are of the highest quality.
This boat exemplifies form and function.
